No, not talking about evolution… more about de-evolution. If you encountered references to web pages here on the blog, but there was no link with it, my apologies. There was a software upgrade and I missed a config setting and the links weren’t appearing.

HMS Indestructible: Unlocking the bloody history of the ship made famous by Turner, the Fighting Temeraire

Very interesting article/book excerpt/review of the book The "Fighting Temeraire" by Sam Willis. Covering the Battle of Trafalgar, it begins to give you a taste of just how bad the conditions could be for these brave fighting men in that day and age.

The article includes a detailed cutaway drawing of the ship. If you are interested in the book:

The Raising of Flight 1549

Only incidently related to our normal topics here, but it does involve the Hudson river and that’s water, right?

This is a neat time lapse video of the raising of the U.S. Airways flight 1549 Airbus that crashed into the river a year or so ago (gee, has it really been that long?)

That is one big crane (it doesn’t look so big until the aircraft appears).

Nature’s Head Composting Toilets

>>> Nature’s Head Composting Toilets

In my opinion, the composting toilet is looking to become more and more the way to go, especially on small boats. No holding tanks/pump outs, etc. Just empty the reservoirs occasionally. Of course the issues with smells and the "how to use it" comes up.

The home made version may very well be how we start out, but I imagine the "wife acceptance factor" will be low on that one 🙂
