Got to work a while tonight and decided to tackle my proposed design for the cabin top handrail/grabrails. The first try came out pretty well, so I finished making them.

Just cut/routed wood, but I think they will work and they look pretty good.

As you can see, they aren't attached yet, but I think they look decent.

Recently I've been a bit discouraged on the V28 build, mostly since I couldn't seem to "get anything done". Either I didn't have time to work, didn't feel well, weather didn't work out, or if all that came together, some things just hadn't "worked" and I felt I was spinning my wheels a bit.

Well, today was a nice turnaround! (Note, this is a long, picture heavy post)

Got started about 2pm (family activities were a bit earlier than normal today) and that was after the required Home Depot run to get wood, etc.

Had a productive evening (I hope).

Mounted my rub rail trial tonight.

It's probably not the final mount (will have to fair the screws in better anyhow), but it looks pretty well, fit nicely, covers some of the "bad spots" on the edge of the hull and seems tough.

I think we'll give it a try and can retrofit with something different easily enough.

Snow in June (in 90 degree weather)??? No, it's really plastic :-)

Today went much better on the boat build than yesterday. Began by getting a little planing done on the front "anchor platform" mount area so that it actually lays nearly flat. Just a bit more there and it will have it.

Well, didn't get to do paint today... instead worked on the front door panel, and redid the hinge mount, and tried it, and redid it...

Glad Dane hung in there with me until we finally got the side posts trimmed correctly (with the new filler pieces) and temporarily mounted.

Lots still to do there, but at least we know how it will mostly work. Still have to figure the window frame a bit better than it is in my head right now.

Got the first pass at the table/bed area put together today. It can be raised/lowered and serve as a table (as shown), or lowered and becomes part of a bunk area. I intend to add some strengthening strips along the edges, but it seems quite workable.

Got the back panel for the table "bench" cut for future padding.

Had enough time tonight to mount the proposed cabin table support. Ran a couple of small pieces fore and aft between two of the cabin wall supports. Then cut the shelf support strip in two (4' length was all that was available) and mounted each strip vertically on the two horizontal boards.

Then you can put the shelf brackets at the height you want the table. I'll get a table top cut and fastened to the shelf brackets so its one unit and I think it will be good to go.

We're getting a new roof on the house today, so most of my time after I got home was checking out what the crew was doing, comparing notes with the neighbor, etc. Just FYI, if you have standard (here in the South US anyhow) asphalt based shingles and have a hail storm, you can get significant damage that is hard to see. Telltale signs are a lot of the "grit" knocked off and in the gutters, and small "dimples" that look dark where the stone hit.

Well, got to work again for a bit tonight... just gorgeous weather. Of course I didn't work on any of my "Next Steps".

Sanded on the front windows and finished the epoxy filling there. Then I added some "trim" strips at the top of the cabin sides. This isn't part of the plans, but I think it looks nice, and will provide some protection from banging when moored in a lock or with tall pilings (some of the V39 owners have noted banging the cabin top was an issue).
