Canal Bridge Magdeburg
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2007-04-09 20:56This has floated around the net a few times, usually as various spoof emails, etc.
Still an incredible feat of engineering, and I would love to ride a boat over it sometime.
Dillinger Hutte GTS - lots of facts and figures from the company that built it
Office Spam has an article, as does About.
Nicholson Guide to the Waterways
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2007-04-09 11:40Since we're on a U.K. canal theme here...
Another good pointer from Jason King over on the Bristol Fashion: life aboard site concerns the Nicholson Guide books... he has found them very helpful and accurate.
Missing boat/person
Submitted by cac on Tue, 2007-04-03 19:44The Canal World forum sent out this note... if you know anything, please help them out!
Nb Holly, a 47ft hire boat from Middlewich Narrowboats was collected by a single
male hirer on 9th March 2007 and due to return to base on the 23rd March. The boat
did not return and there is now very serious concern for the welfare of the hirer.
There has been 1 unconfirmed sighting of the boat heading from Wolverhampton locks
towards Birmingham (20th March) and nothing has been seen of the boat or hirer
since.
This does not appear to be a normal theft of a narrowboat as the hirer has left a
car at the boat yard, paid by a credit card registered to his home address, and it
appears that no-one has been inside his home address since the 9th of March.
I would be very grateful if all members could keep an eye out for this boat. If see
/ have seen it please contact Middlewich Narowboats on 01606 832460 or contact
Cheshire Police on 01606 480000 quoting incident 421 24/03/2007.
A picture of the boat can be seen in this thread:

Many thanks for your help,

UK's Navigable Aqueducts
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2011-09-05 21:00The United Kingdom's narrowboat canals always hold an interest to me. Add in these "water bridges" and you just have some really neat engineering.

Narrowboats.org
Submitted by cac on Tue, 2010-10-26 21:55A couple of years ago (gee, has it been that long?) we pointed out Nick's Canal Route Planner. A recent comment points out the new Narrowboats.org site, which I have enjoyed looking around.
Not only do they seem to have a detailed route planning tool, there is also an extensive gallery of British canal pictures, and (for the boat-builders/designers among us) a very neat, interactive narrowboat layout tool. read more »
