"No Strings Attached" - Sail/Electric Stephen Redmond Elver
Submitted by cac on Tue, 2009-02-10 22:26William Marsh over on the electric boats mailing list has built a nice little sailing sloop and added electric power for those times when the wind doesn't cooperate.
Very nice looking boat, and interesting web site. Check out his Apalachicola Trip details.
I love this picture - LuvMyBoat.com
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2009-02-09 12:15LuvMyBoat.com has an interesting site with a thriving on-line community worth checking out. This particular photo is just of a boat I find to be beautiful. Wish I knew more about it.
Electrification of a Nordic 17
Submitted by cac on Sun, 2009-01-25 22:11Matthew Geier of Australia has taken an old family boat and electrified it. Along the way, he's made a very nice writeup of his trials and created what looks like a really nice boat.
I've been worried more and more about my plans to go electric. Mostly because I just don't see many people doing it with "power" boats. Lots of people use electric on sailboats as auxiliaries, but not many on power. Here's an example where it seems to be working well.
Thanks for the writeup, Matthew!

Submitted by cac on Mon, 2009-01-05 18:03I wish I had ran across Thomas Armstrong's neat little blog before now... Geared around ocean and boating themes (including boat building), I've enjoyed what I've seen so far, and intend to keep digging into the archives. read more »
New Puget Sound Maritime blog
Submitted by cac on Wed, 2008-12-31 16:54From the producer of the great Navagear blog comes a new offshoot that you may want to check out. From his announcement on Mad Mariner™:
For over a year, I've tried to strike a balance between relevant, on-topic gear and gadgets posts and fascinating, off-topic regional maritime stories. A lot of the great stories I've encountered were so far off-topic that I was obliged not to include them on Navagear at all. It's been a bit of a struggle. read more »
Frogma
Submitted by cac on Sat, 2008-12-20 23:35For something a little different, a blog by a female kayaker, Bonnie, who lives in the New York/Hudson River area... my that just sounds cold to me, but apparently not a big problem.
Check it out.

Mcm Modellers
Submitted by cac on Sat, 2008-12-13 23:16Mick & Marion Brown have started a new site covering boat models. They have some really impressive radio controlled sailboats. I've seen lots of R/C power craft (that's how I got my start with boats), but I have never followed the sail world much.
I wish my craftsmanship on my full size build could come close to their work in miniture!
The Bianka Blog
Submitted by cac on Fri, 2008-12-12 17:47An interesting blog covering the adventures of a sailboat with a dead/dying engine. He's now working to replace it with an electric setup.
Another Direction
Submitted by cac on Thu, 2008-11-06 21:58Our friends Warren and Robin have decided not to buy their Island Pilot DSe and instead change back to a land based life... although I'm sad to see them go, I wish them well and hope they keep posting of their adventures. read more »
