Dennis Wolfe has build a very nice looking electric launch. It's for sale, but even if you're not wanting to buy, it's a pretty boat and there are lots of detailed pictures and details of the electric propulsion parts.

One of the major problems with solar power is that you only get energy when the sun is out. When the sun is down (or even just low on the horizon or it's cloudy), then you need another source of power.

Right now, batteries are often used to store that energy for later use, but weight and inefficiencies limit the technology. read more »

I'm not sure if this Parsun is related in any way to the Parsun Electric Outboard by Mars that we covered the other day or not, but I ran across it and found they have several interesting products.

Lower power (2-40 HP) 2 and 4 stroke outboards, generators, inverters and supporting equipment. Prices look quite reasonable.  read more »

The 2008 Frisian Solar Challenge has just been completed. Last run in 2006, this year this race through the European canals via solar power was completed by 32 of the 49 boats.

This site is a wiki (meaning you can edit it and add to the information) which is looking to have information on electric boating, electric only lakes, and other RV and boating info.

Take a look and toss in some data if it suits you.

Navagear is hosting a video of the Torqeedo Electric Outboard. Slick little portable motor for a dinghy or whatever.

Their video shows assembly, mounting and a little playing around on a small inflatable.
