The first of the successful, long range cruising power boats for an individual, he designed and had it built and used it many years. I"ve long enjoyed touring various ships that have been retired and put on display. I ran across the link to the U.S.S. Slater today... looks interesting. Being privately owned by a non-profit organization, they have used volunteer labor (retired Navy personnel and other interested folks) to restore and renovate the only WWII destroyer escort still afloat. read more »

The Age of Schooners

This is is a nice site with lots of history and details of this Great Lakes area. Sponsored by the Department of the Interior and various Michigan State departments, it is well done and fun to explore.
