Melting lead for ballast
Submitted by cac on Thu, 2009-06-18 23:20Kay and Doug from SubmarineBoat.com have posted these YouTube videos on melting lead (in their instance from wheel weights) for sailboat ballast.
Lots of people talk about using this rather hot, messy and slightly dangerous technique to obtain their needed ballast, but this is one of the best visual examples I've seen of actually doing it, including a lot of useful information.

The AM40pt is listed as not finished yet, but is one I would really like to look at: "The maxi trailer world cruiser trimaran powerboat! 1000 Days at Sea
Submitted by cac on Wed, 2009-04-22 14:412 years into a great voyage...
Reid and Soanya Ahmad left April 21, 2007 with three years of food and supplies, and the plan is to not port nor resupply until 2010. The schooner provides its own energy for lights, winches, and satellite communications from solar panels, and water generators. The Anne stopped receiving shore power in September of 2006, 225 days before her departure.

Briney Bug - Simplicity to the max
Submitted by cac on Thu, 2009-03-26 21:41Simplicity and keeping things simple have been themes in my build for a while. I've found that simplifying is a good trend in lots of aspects of life... computer systems, "stuff around the house", all manner of things.
The Briney Bug is "Simplicity taken to the max". Trawlers and Trawlering has a nice little article with several pictures of this unique design. read more »
Psycho Snail
Submitted by cac on Sat, 2009-03-21 22:16Nifty little blog dealing with a sailboat refit... of special interest to me are a couple of boating calculators that have recently been added.
Articles on Sail boat refit project, making your own bow thrusters, bowsprit and screecher, and info on cruising and sailing in general. I'll be writing about all things cruising e.g. survival at sea, boat maintenance, anchoring, interiors, DC electrics, hybrid electric boats, hydraulics, rigging etc.
