RC submarine and a sewer

Kind of interesting... using a commercially available RC sub model (Neptune SB-1) to lay fiber through sewer pipes. (article in Italian).

Origami and Paper Yachts

We've used the Origami word many times on this site to for our dinghy build. Well, this time we're talking about the actual folded paper kind.

Makezine is having a contest to win a copy of the Paper Yachts book by Nic Compton and Nick Robinson. It looks like it might be a lot of fun even if you don't win a copy. read more »

22' Yamato Model - in Lego

What an incredible build. 6 years on a model. Maybe I can beat that on a real boat (but with nowhere near the skill or detail). GCaptain has this article, with lots of links to other places. Brothers Brick is a core one.

Sea Perch program - build a ROV

This is a really slick program by MIT... they have a program where students are taught to build a ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle). Seems like a fun project. Mount a camera and you can inspect your hull.

Plans and documents are available for download.

Sternwheel Launch Alligator

Alligator_0.jpg

This is an old 1911 issues of "The Rudder" Magazine which is being offered as available to build models, but the plans were originally intended for full size construction apparently. It isn't know if anyone ever built it. read more »

Rubber Band Powered Boat

OK, so it's small...

Maybe we should explore wind up boats again. read more »

Harry S. Truman - in Lego

You may have seen this incredible model before, but its worth another look. That has to be more work (and definitely more discrete pieces) than any of the boats we're building :-)

Mcm Modellers

Mick & Marion Brown have started a new site covering boat models. They have some really impressive radio controlled sailboats. I've seen lots of R/C power craft (that's how I got my start with boats), but I have never followed the sail world much.

I wish my craftsmanship on my full size build could come close to their work in miniture!

Boat Bed

boat_bed_007.jpg

This is a really nice job on a kids bed/toy box, complete with working nav lights.

Click the picture for a bigger version. There's also an "under construction" pic that shows the frame. read more »

20' HMS Hood model - in Lego

hmshood_lego.jpg

What an incredible model... A ship model and Lego's to boot. It even includes a battery operated derrick, and lots of auxiliary craft.

There's a 184 picture set on Flickr detailing his progress during his build.

He even build a 20' ship (that's 2/3rd the length of my boat!) in 7 months.
