houseboat
In the beginning
Submitted by Mystique on Thu, 2009-07-23 23:14Just like Noah I had a sudden urge to buy a houseboat. The Noah reference will become obvious later. Well the urge was actually inspired by an ad in the local paper for a houseboat for sale for only $9000. 20 metres by 6 metres well equipped. There had to be a catch but I just had to check this out. The sale process was a "dutch auction" where the seller seeks increasing offers until they reach an acceptable amount and then agrees to sell. A phone call and an inspection revealed why the price was so low.

Erie Canal Narrowboat Rentals
Submitted by cac on Sat, 2012-02-04 18:54A pointer from All About Houseboats (their site is worth checking out - you can get booking info through them or direct, it looks like) led me to the Mid-Lakes Navigation page where you can arrange to rent UK style narrowboats on the Erie canal.
Looks fun!
Boatel
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2011-08-08 21:12We continue to see abandoned boats be a problem in the poor economic circumstances many people are experiencing. I saw articles on CNN and Fox News just today.
The Boggsville Boatel is another take on making practical use of some of the abandoned fiberglass hulls that marinas wind up collecting.
Rebuilding of a 57' Carri-Craft
Submitted by cac on Sun, 2011-07-31 22:38“What on earth were you thinking?” seemed to be the most popular response when friends first laid eyes upon my latest purchase; a 57’ Carri Craft named ‘The Aristocat’.
I'm glad David managed such a successful rebuild. From a sunken and scrapped mess of a hull, to a boat they enjoy. A true labor of love.
Off-grid Houseboating
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2010-07-19 16:19Panbo has a link to this nifty looking "houseboat". Really more of a barge made to look boatlike, it's a rentable, on-the-water cabin. read more »
Carri-Craft Catamaran Houseboat?
Submitted by cac on Fri, 2009-10-02 23:35I found this page an interesting collection of comments and information about a design I had never seen before. Been many years since it was built, but looks like it might have been a nice boat.
Launching a shantyboat (in German)
Submitted by cac on Wed, 2009-05-20 21:31I don't read German, so I don't know many of the details, but the pictures are pretty self explanatory.
Neat looking little Shantyboat.

House Boat - no Boat House
Submitted by cac on Thu, 2008-03-20 22:29This site has a different use of the term, but looking at the craft, its fitting.

This is an incredible "house" built on a boat hull.
