Submitted by cac on Tue, 2009-10-06 20:15Really slick little motor for a small craft. Instructables has this video showing a couple of guys motoring around in their canoe, including some beautiful scenering including several British looking canal boats.
Toward the end of the video they break down their motor and show how it was assembled. Wish I could do that on a slightly larger scale. read more »
Dutch Barges
Submitted by cac on Sun, 2009-09-20 13:31Sorry for the lack of postings for a few days... been on vacation (holiday) to Great Britain.
Since you have to inflict your vacation pictures on people, here are a couple. Two different gorgeous Dutch Barges tied alongside the River Thames in London. One still set up with the big sideboard and sails.

Canal Bridge Magdeburg
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2007-04-09 20:56This has floated around the net a few times, usually as various spoof emails, etc.
Still an incredible feat of engineering, and I would love to ride a boat over it sometime.
Dillinger Hutte GTS - lots of facts and figures from the company that built it
Office Spam has an article, as does About.
UK's Navigable Aqueducts
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2011-09-05 21:00The United Kingdom's narrowboat canals always hold an interest to me. Add in these "water bridges" and you just have some really neat engineering.

Crossing the Atlantic in a Multihull Flats Boat
Submitted by cac on Fri, 2011-02-25 23:12...we were working on the boat the night before we left, at two o'clock in the morning, and it still wasn't done.
These guys crossed the Atlantic in honor of the memory of Sgt John Harvey, Cpl George Holmes, and SSgt Dewey Johnson. They are trying to raise awareness and money for some of our fallen hero soldiers.
I want to learn a lot more about their boat. A 21' outboard powered design that can navigate in 3" of water... but can handle the ocean? Sounds impressive. Looks kind of flat-bottom catamaran like. Mad Mariner™ has an in-depth interview with them that is worth the read.
Narrowboats.org
Submitted by cac on Tue, 2010-10-26 21:55A couple of years ago (gee, has it been that long?) we pointed out Nick's Canal Route Planner. A recent comment points out the new Narrowboats.org site, which I have enjoyed looking around.
Not only do they seem to have a detailed route planning tool, there is also an extensive gallery of British canal pictures, and (for the boat-builders/designers among us) a very neat, interactive narrowboat layout tool. read more »
Kelvin Launches
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2010-05-03 21:26A neat page with scans and pictures from an old UK plans catalog. Some nice looking smaller boats there.
