A little different... an edible boat race. Leave it to the Brits :-)

The 2008 Frisian Solar Challenge has just been completed. Last run in 2006, this year this race through the European canals via solar power was completed by 32 of the 49 boats.

An interesting "floating island" that apparently has a small ampitheatre and cafe "on board".

Neat looking, anyhow. Follow the link for a bigger picture.

Sure doesn't help the navigability of that river, though :-)

As a follow-on to the previous post of the French "boat lift", here's another set of pictures of a different boat transport arrangement on the canals in France. I don't know much about it, but the pictures are quite interesting.

A "boat lift" constructed in 1969 to replace/bypass 17 locks in France. Quite a sight... check the pictures. Someday I want to explore those European canals.

The Glass Boat restaurant is an old barge, converted to a high-end restaurant and moored on the river in Bristol, England. Of interest is that they just had the craft drydocked for renovation and blogged the process. Some interesting pictures and information concerning this beautiful old boat. read more »
