Incredible folding bike
Submitted by cac on Wed, 2009-08-05 22:32Bicycles and especially folding bicycles are popular among boaters, and we've covered various designs and offerings in the past.
I think this is by far the slickest design I've seen. I hope they get it in production. read more »
Folding Bicycles
Submitted by cac on Tue, 2007-08-28 13:29A common problem for liveaboard and cruising boaters is how to get around town when you have reached a layover destination. Sometimes you are just wanting to anchor out and not be bothered by the world, but often you want to tour a town, see the sites, or just pick up a quick bite that you didn't cook yourself. read more »

pi mobility
Submitted by cac on Wed, 2009-09-23 21:12Another in our series of bicycle posts. Yes, its a boat blog, but many, many boaters use bicycles to get around when they are ashore. Easy to transport and (at least sometimes) easier than walking.

Electric Powered Bikes
Submitted by cac on Mon, 2009-01-12 17:24We've had various bicycle links here before. I'm not a big bike rider, but many boaters find they are great ways to provide shore-side transportation that you can easily transport with you. Bikes with electric assist make those hills a bit more practial. This outfit has a really slick looking design. Price is significant, and I can't vouch for their true usage, but might be of interest.
A hub motor and putting the batteries in the other hub is a design innovation I have never seen. read more »
Zuumer - Very Light Electric Vehicle
Submitted by cac on Sun, 2008-10-12 21:29We've had a variety of bicycle and other "away from the boat" transportation ideas before. When I read people's cruise logs, they either stay on the boat all the time (not me), wind up renting a car, or do some combination of bike and walk. The bike and walk obviously has some advantages and disadvantages and I kind of keep my eye out for likely alternatives.
The Zuumer is a nifty cross between a scooter, a surf board and an electric bike.
Check out their home page and also this excellent detailed review. Read below for more details and a video. read more »
