Coal powered Flying Boat

Not very eco-friendly, but let's build one!

Just a fun picture I saw a link to. Click for the full size.

Make your own HDR images

OK, for something a little bit different... we've had several pictures from Click here to visit Stuck In Customs.">StuckInCustoms over time. Trey Ratcliff uses a technique called HDR (High Dynamic Range) to process and edit his photos. This gives them their great colors and "pop" which I really like.

He has started offering a course on DVD, either the
basic or added value premium. A bit more pricey than what you may be used to picking up, but given the quality of much of his work, I'm betting they are worth it.

Flying Boats

There probably aren't what you are thinking... we're not talking amphibious aircraft, but rather boats in water so clear that it looks like they aren't even floating. Beautiful pictures, and I found the fact that there were multiple "out there" fascinating.

Veramar Naval Products

Veramar Naval Products offers a range of naval and military themed artwork. They mostly have prints of various ships of the line, and can make prints on posters, etc. from artwork you provide.

They have quite a selection of reasonably priced photos/prints. Don't be fooled by the name... they also have Army and Air Force prints with tanks, aircraft and other vehicles in addition to naval works.

OneEighteen - Houston Ship Pilot

The Panbo Marine Electronics blog has a pointer to some great photography. OneEighteen is a Houston Ship Pilot who has taken many photos while plying his trade and has posted them online on flickr. Check out his various photo sets.

photoTIURA

Thanks to a Duckworks Magazine mailing list post for pointing me toward this page.

Jan Tiura was the first woman tugboat captain on San Francisco Bay... she has also been active in photography for much of her life. After driving any and all manner of tugs for years, she is making some of her photographs available at photoTIURA... really pretty stuff, much of it seen from the angle of a tug captain.

Bob Waters

The Magnolia Framing and Art Gallery in Gautier, MS has Bob Walters as a featured artist. A retired Navy "Top Gun" pilot and TWA captain, Mr. Walters' photographic interests are largely concentrated in the area of coastal wildlife and landscapes. Recently he has moved to digital processing and control every aspect of his creations. Bob Walters has numerous magazine credits including several cover shots for Southwind Magazine.

Commercial Artists

To add to the Boat Art trend, there are many commercial artists that specialize in boat and maritime subjects... I'll try to add to these as I find them. read more »
