Man Builds Noah's Ark (exact scale given in Bible)

I had a link to this construction before, but this includes more pictures. Looks a lot like building a timberframe house, but is certainly impressive. To have done all that in 2-3 years puts my efforts to shame.

See below for pictures.

Man Builds Noah's Ark (exact scale given in Bible)

Working Replica of Noah's Ark Opened In SCHAGEN, Netherlands . The massive central door in the side of Noah's Ark was opened the first crowd of curious townsfolk to behold the wonder. Of course, it's only a replica of the biblical Ark , built by Dutch Creationist Johan Huibers as a testament to his faith in the literal truth of the Bible. The ark is 150 cubits long, 30 cubits high and 20 cubits wide. That's two-thirds the length of a football field and as high as a three-story house. Life-size models of giraffes, elephants, lions, crocodiles, zebras, bison and other animals greet visitors as they arrive in the main hold. A contractor by trade, Huibers built the ark of cedar and pine. Biblical Scholars debate exactly what the wood used by No ah would have been.

Huibers did the work mostly with his own hands, using modern tools and with occasional help from his son Roy. Construction began in May 2005. On the uncovered top deck - not quite ready in time for the opening - will come a petting zoo, with baby lambs and chickens, and goats, and one camel.

Visitors on the first day were stunned. 'It's past comprehension', said Mary Louise Starosciak, who happened to be bicycling by with her husband while on vacation when they saw the ark looming over the local landscape.

'I knew the story of Noah, but I had no idea the boat would have been so big.' There is enough space near the keel for a 50-seat film theater where kids can watch a video that tells the story of Noah and his ark. Huibers, a Christian man, said he hopes the project will renew interest in Christianity in the Netherlands, where church going has fallen dramatically in the past 50 years.

Ark

Very nice job, its amazing to see that people in the world still take the time to replicate things that took place in the Bible, I think its a wonderful piece of educational work that everyone will be able to appreciate for years to come. I saw this on the news this morning and was just fastinated & well since Turkey won't let us search for the real one in their mountains ( people have claimed to seen it up there though full evidence hasn't been revealed yet ) this is just as good to let people know just how big of a project God gave Noah and to let people see just how much work was involved. Thank you for giving us such an educational piece of Biblicle Art to appreciate and ahhhh over, I'm sure God is looking down at your Ark with a smile. mic from Nevada

This Ark in half of the original length of Noah’s Ark and a third of the width. (The original Ark was 140 cubits long, and 23 cubits wide and 14 cubits high, This Ark is 70 cubits long, 9,5 cubits wide and nearly 13 cubits high) A cubit is 21.888 inches and originally the length of the lower arm. May I just say, I think what you did with the Ark is amazing. I was able to use your website for a Sunday school lesson on Noah's ark to show how big Noah's ark really was. I showed old footage and pictures of Mt. Ararat and what are remains of Noah's Ark. and than to really hit the point I showed them your incredible boat. They of course where beside themselves. I was so glad to find your site, it will be such a witness for years to come of God's greatness, Thank you for building it. If I ever get down your way, I would love to see the boat up close and personal. It's really incredible. And adding the animals made it twice as real to them and they really grasp the heart of the lesson. May God Bless you in your continued ideas. Also if you ever get the chance I would love to see a replica of the Ark Of The Covenant in Exodus 25: No one really has a good replica of that. Just a thought. Blessing Linette

Thanks, but not mine :-)

Linette,

Thanks so much for your comment, but I just wanted to make clear it wasn't my boat/build. I just was sent the pictures and posted them.

I agree that it's a great witness.

I don't have a contact for Johan Huibers, the builder... sorry.
