The article at Wired wasn't wrong. They just qualified the "first" with the adjective "commercial." While Verdant had turbines in the East River several years ago, they were attached to a private network, only a couple of stores. The turbines mentioned in the Wired article are the first to be connected to a commercial network. There are lots of ways to be first. You can claim the first boating blog to write about underwater power turbines. ;}
