There has been a thread recently on Origami Boats concerning steel finishing/coating. This is an ongoing discussion on every metal boat building site you can imagine, and there is never really a "final" answer. Different products come and go, and different people have opinions.

One product that was mentioned in glowing terms and after some reading looks very interesting to me is Zinga. I think this one will bear more research and watching.
