5 years of CaC

Five years of Craft a Craft... can you believe it? I sure can't. Thousands of posts, links, pictures. Plans, thoughts, dreams and ideas. Starting and moving along in a build, and following several fellow builders to their successful launches.

It's been a great five years, and look forward to more. read more »

It's toooooo cold!

Well, after a nice "reactivation" of the project the other day, winter showed up with a vengence. We've been having days where the high barely breaks freezing, and its actually snowing a bit here in Atlanta tonight. That's pretty rare for us.

Too cold to do much on the boat, although I did go out and check on it for a minute tonight and all seemed fine.

To add to it, I'm going to have to have a minor medical procedure next week, so I'll probalby be a bit out of action for a couple of days when it does finally warm up.

Terrorism and Security - just buy a boat

OK, just to get on my soapbox briefly... all the heightened tensions and wasted effort on airplane security leads me back to my ongoing hobby... just take a boat.

Air travel is reaching the point of diminishing returns for me. I'm more concerned about the "security" people and their arbitrary restrictions than I am the threats from external sources.

I hope that I'll soon be able to do more of my travel via boat (personal or otherwise) where maybe more level heads will prevail. read more »

Flu - or something

Ick... anybody want some germs? We've got plenty. Dane and I are both down with the crud. Sorry for the delay in postings.

A little epoxy

I'm still liking time change... had time to do a little after I got home.

Mixed up a couple of cups of epoxy and sealed the seam between the cabin sidewalls under the windows and the side decks.

Not a big deal, but a definite step toward weatherproofing.

What I've been up to

I know I haven't been around much the last couple of weeks... sorry about that, but another of my activities is running lights and other technical stuff for my church. We just finished our large Christmas program, a Living Christmas Tree.

135-140 choir members are "on" or "in" the tree you see below. 40+ person orchestra (volunteers) and a full drama. It keeps us busy for a little while, but of course I figure the cause is worth it. read more »

Rear sponson storage

Promoted Dane to lawn mowing class today, so while he did that, I got some done on the boat :-)

Routed out some on the framework for the rear sponson areas so that I can get an opening hatch cover mounted there. They are designed to be propane tank storage. Don't know if that's what I'll use them for, but they will definitely be good storage for something. read more »

Holes and grips

Worked for a while today...

On the foredeck, got the front hatch fitting pretty well (needed a little sanding). We looked and discussed about a handle for it. I didn't want a handle on top due to it being a trip hazard. Considered handles from the sides which would be better... after considering that for a bit, hit on the idea of just routing out a grip area in a couple of places around the hatch. That lets you get a good grip on things, but there's no trip or foot hazard. read more »

Still alive

Been out of town on business, so haven't been able to work on the boat. Wound up that it was probably good timing, since Atlanta got a ton of rain and I wouldn't have been able to get much done anyhow (and boy did we need the rain!).

Dane got the boat pumped out (with Melanie's help) while I was gone, and this morning I finished cleaning up a little remainder he had missed. Tonight we made a Home Depot run and got wood. read more »

Merry Christmas!

As we celebrate this Crhistmas season around the world, I just want to wish all my boat building, cruising and otherwise boat nut friends a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

May you enjoy your time with family and friends, stay safe and have fun on the water or off!
