Roof trim

After a morning with a school function, Dane installed himself reading a book and I got into boat work (he's been a little under the weather, so I didn't have my usual helper).

I spent a while cutting most of the pieces for the port side window frames. Got most all of them cut, including the lap joints. Have to pick up a 2x6 to finish that up, but hopefully those are close. read more »

Si-Tex T900, new standalone radar

Some boaters don’t like multifunction displays—the theory being that several dedicated devices will never leave a skipper functionless—and thus I’m sometimes asked to recommend a standalone radar. Which is tough, as the recreational models from Furuno, JRC, and Raymarine that I used to be familiar with all seem to be history. Well, check out Si-Tex’s new T-900

Here’s a sweet piece of film of the River Thames years ago spotted by ‘Carl’, who belongs to the Dinghy Cruising Association’s splendid Openboat YahooGroup. If you’re a small boat sailor I recommend it for all sorts of practical reasons, and this kind of thing is a real bonus. read more »
