Rover 36

Gerd has some great looking Origami designs. I'll flesh this out more, but wanted to get the basics down...

Pros:

  • Steel
  • Origami
  • Designed for amature construction
  • Canal draft/air draft

Cons:

  • Less deck area
  • Plans not fully fleshed out... and only one craft currently under construction of this design
  • Deck layout not quite "right" to me, although...
  • Would like twin keels or some way of beaching it safely...

Potential changes/questions:

  • Swimstep/recessed transom?
  • Why doesn't bow come to point?

Hi ;-)

I just checked logs on my WEB site and found that I got quite a few hits from this blog. Thanks a lot for the referrers and the friendly review!! ;-) In the meantime, we actually have 3 boats building: my own YAGO 31, then the ROVER 36 and just last week the building of the new YAGO 36 has started in Florida. Pics on the website... As for the blunt bows: This is only the Steel hull with a triangular insert that allows to make strong good welds easily. In front of that will be a rounded bowpiece, can be made either from Wood or steel as well. The deck: I like flushdecks a lot, beacausse auf the very wide interior visual space, it feels huge. I also findit is practical when sailing, because when heeled, the windward site is almost flat andeasy to walk on, whereas under the wind you sit comfortably on the deck, feet on the toerail - I prefer this a lot the typical narrow sideck in lee where you have to crouch under the overhanging cabin top.. but that's just me really... the YAGO designs could also be adapted for a more classical superstructure. All the Best from Budapest, Gerd

Thanks for the info...

Gerd, Thanks for the info!

I saw on the Origami List where another of your designs is coming together (Florida I think)?

I still like the steel/origami designs a lot... your Rover 36 is one of my favorites!
